Yesterday we was on a military job. While we was two inspectors came out to the job to do a walk thru, checking to make sure we was packing and inventorying the way the 600+ page manual tells you to.
Nothing strange about that at all- we enjoy the visits. These men are from country towns, and still have the manners and outlook that comes with that upbringing. One is new, not seen him often. The other has been here a few years now.
As the customer was not there in the storage building with us we was able to shoot the breeze a little and I found out the man I had been having issues with, we will call him Tony, is being moved out of the job he has. That job being what they call “inbound” as in all the storage and storage deliveries. Some thing I have been lacking of late.
Little history on this- I got a call from a old friend who works at one of the bigger companies in a bigger town, and he tells me Tony had stop by to visit with the military department a few days ago. “Why? He should have no contact with any movers.” “I don’t know. But how is your storage been doing? We have been more then normal busy up here. Going a lot into the eastern area.” Eastern- as in MY area.
Rule: If the shipment goes to storage- you take it to the nearest military agent. See my problem? And Tony has not been to “visit” me.
I take that and the comment he made to my sister as she filed our rates for the upcoming season of “Small business will be going out. Really no use for your kind any more.” and I kind of got mad. The remark I was just stewing over…thinking he does have the “being an ass” gene but now to find out he was “visiting” movers. Oh hell no.
Months ago I asked the inspectors about it and they told me they had heard he had visit with the movers. They agreed he should never visit or have any kind of deal with the movers. They also told me they had told his boss of the visits. Well I had the pleasure of calling his boss and he came down for a visit.
Taking the remark he made to my sister, the little sly remarks he has made to me on the phone as he ordered out shipments, the visits to movers who was getting my storage- I said he should be fired. One- he is giving my jobs away, visiting people who all of a sudden got my jobs, I see money changing hands. Two- he is holding my company size against me for no reason, telling me flat out that I would be out of business. Funny how he is helping that happen as he gives away my jobs. Jobs that the rules clearly state are to come to me. And three- He has added two movers to the list or approved movers in the eastern part of my state- across State lines, into WVA and TN. (Something else one of the inspectors told me) What the hell??? You can’t do that- the base service area does not go that far. And I have not refused any shipments so you don’t have ANY cause or need to add more. I mean- What the hell is he doing? What do you think the big wigs in the DOD will do when I, a female small business owner starts howling discrimination? And believe me- I will freaking ass howl.
I have a fantastic rep in the military, no huge claims, never walked out on a job even though I should of plenty, no big problems for over 54 years, oldest military agent held by the original owners for this base so… do something or I will go above your head. I am fed up with the guy and his condescending attitude.
Found out yesterday he did- After looking into the matter Tony is being put in charge of checking the paperwork, filings, surveys from customers, and other assorted things. In other words he will have nothing to do with people- just paperwork. The job of “outbound” will be given to one of the inspectors, the one from the small town two towns over. The one who we all like, and the one who reported Tony to his boss for those visits to moving companies because he knew something was up with that.
Now we might see some jobs heading our way. And about time…check book is getting kind of chilled. I tried to keep the peace, not be seen as a trouble maker. I was taught you treat the military with respect, they are the ones who put butter on your bread. If it wasn’t for the military we would not be as we are today…of course I also would not have all the buildings, packing, god offer amount of insurance, and other things you have to have to stay as a military agent. *sigh* We also would not be here today if we let assholes run over us, take our jobs.
But it comes down to this- Tony is out, new guy we like is in. Yeah! Let the game continue as Tony goes to his bench to watch from the side line.

I eat double stuffed oreos with fat free milk. I figure they balance each other out. :p
Now, point me in the direction of the person who needs to receive the "look". I've got one, it's pretty wicked, I'm practicing for the day I have children.
